Fishers Green Sailing Club - Solo
About the Solo class
The National Solo is a
classic, one-design, single handed dinghy. Designed by Jack Holt in
1956,the Solo remains a popular dinghy, sailed at manyclubs in the
UK, Holland and Australia.
 Originally designed in
wood, competitive boats are now widely available in Foam Reinforced
Plastic (FRP) or composite construction (FRP hull and wood deck) as
well as wood.
Racing:
Club racing for Solos at FGSC is well supported by
friendly, helpful helms with a wide range of sailing abilities,
which means that there is always someone to race against, no matter
what standard of skills you may have. Several FGSC Solo helms
participate successfully at the Solo Championships and Open Meetings
at other Clubs.
Talking of Open Meetings, FGSC has its own
established Solo Open Meeting, normally held towards the end of
September, which is always well attended by Club sailors and
visitors alike.
There is normally a Solo Training day held at the club each year
which is well supported, taught by National champions and NSCA
qualified trainers.
In addition:
- Nationwide Open Meeting circuit
- Championships held alternately in the UK and Holland
- National Championships held annually in the UK, Holland and
Australia
- National Inland Water Championship held annually in the UK
