FGSC don't offer formal Power Boat training, so I thought I'd start this topic to share experiences about external courses.

The RYA Power Boat (PB) 2 course is regarded as the driving licence for powerboats and motor cruisers. You have a choice of inland or coastal certificate, with the latter also covering inland waters. My advice is do the coastal as it covers anywhere you might go. Children can do it from the age of 12, but have an endorsement (under supervision) until they turn 16. The certificate can also be exchanged (via RYA) for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) that allows you to rent/use Powerboats abroad.

My personal experience was doing PB 2 with Perfect Day Watersports - www.perfect.uk.com. They're a small company based in Southend, had the best prices around and have 100% pass-rate. I think there is a maximum of three people per session. We had two half-days of theory and practical around Two-Tree Island and out to Southend Peer. Mike, the owner, was very friendly, patient and knowledgeable about driving RIBs in all conditions. You might get more time on the water with other companies, but my view was that I could practice to my hearts content at FGSC afterwards so didn't view that as a problem.
