Good report Jon - I assume Christian hasn't filed his usual report as he's still too embarrassed by the result of the preceding race! For those who missed the superb weather at the club on Wednesday several of the younger members plus a couple not so young (Christian and Bill (Nokes not Brockbank)) had spent the windless afternoon messing about trying SUP (stand up paddling) with a couple of windsurf boards and a Topper. This culminated in a SUP race from the clubhouse around race island and back between Annabel and Christian which Annabel won by more than a minute!!!!!!!!!

PRO race officer Gabe Hill assisted by Chris (still learning the ropes) Hill, managed to set a perfect Merlin course which included a long beat from 9 to 4 with a run down to 7 beat to 5 and a long run back to 9. The Phantoms and Solo's could not compete with the off wind pace of the vintage Merlin with just one Gybe required by Pylon Island and good pressure found on the left hand side of the course.

Race report c/o competitor..

17th Aug. Race Report

The absence of the now famed post race toasties seemed to result in several
Wednesday evening warriors being absent (or perhaps they were on holiday?)
with Daisy and Max in their Toppers compensating for the regular youth sailors
being at Waldringfield. Fortunately a large Solo turn out kept the numbers
respectable. More Solos would have been sailing if the 2 R’s (Roger’s not
Ronnies) hadn’t decided not to compete in the Easterly breeze that held for the
evening albeit with variations in pressure across the lake but only minor shifts.

Bunching at the favoured committee boat end of the line resulted in a few boats
soon (or in one instance not very soon) doing turns but at the finish only the
winning Albacore prevented Solos taking the first 6 places. If I’ve got the maths
right then, despite his 2 nd place, Bill can’t now catch Jon and Annabel who have
won the series with 2 races to go.

The penultimate race next week precedes several boats heading off to Stone for
the Essex Championships over the bank holiday weekend. As it’s also the last
Wednesday to sign up for the prize giving fish and chip supper hopefully a large
fleet will be competing.

The link shows Jon and Annabel eventually taking out Bill after almost 3 legs!
Another stunning evening at the Green. Started in a slight breeze, enough to get moving slickly and turned into an almost drifter. Just enough wind to get everyone round in two laps. RO Colin used his experience to shorten the course by moving X closer and the finish line to 1 with no gate.

2nd Richard Coulter Solo
3rd Paul Bidwell Phantom

Race report c/o Christian:

Wednesday night warriors, sorry for the long gap between reports, 18 boats on the water in a decent breeze that stayed with us all night, we had a 3 generation race team of Colin Hill Christian Hill Gabriel Hill. Paul Bidwell took line honours from James Mead and Jon Steward but none of these could prevent a poduim lock out by the solo boys of Godfrey Clark David Walford Steve Conroy. We had a few capsizes on the evening with the legend that is Steve Conroy tipping it in twice ! Only 4 more Wednesday races to go, so get yourself along to see what's happening and sample a cracking toastie and break your week up with having a sail.
