Welcome message

Let me extend a warm welcome to Fishers Green Sailing Club.

We are a friendly club situated in the picturesque Lee Valley Regional Park with competitive Club Racing, casual sailing, a vibrant youth Cadet fleet and a well-respected Model Boat section.  There are social events throughout the year and plenty of opportunities to sail or to help out.  You can reach our membership secretary on membership@fishersgreensc.org.uk for more information.

What is a Solo?

The National Solo is a classic, one-design, single-handed dinghy. Designed by Jack Holt in 1956, the Solo remains a popular dinghy, sailed at many clubs in the UK, Holland and Australia. Originally designed in wood, competitive boats are now widely available in Foam Reinforced Plastic (FRP) or composite construction (FRP hull and wood deck) as well as all wood. At 12ft 5in and 70 kg, the Solo is ideally suited to anyone of between 10 and 15 stone in weight. Different mast and sail options can be chosen to suit helms of all sizes and with its deep cockpit the Solo is kind to the knees (and the head).

Solos at Fishers Green

With 30+ Solos at FGSC, racing for this class is very well supported by friendly, helpful helms with a wide range of sailing abilities, which means that there is always someone to race against. Several FGSC Solo helms participate successfully at the Solo Championships and Open Meetings at other clubs.

FGSC has its own established annual Solo open meeting which is always very well attended by club sailors and visiting helms.

There is usually a Solo class Training day held at the club each year which is also well supported, and is presented by RYA / NSCA qualified trainers.

  • Extensive nationwide Open Meeting circuit
  • Nations Cup held alternately in the UK and Holland
  • National Championships held annually in the UK, Holland and Australia
  • National Inland Championship held annually
